Start with Shadow Rider if you want to meet Christine Feehan’s fictional Ferraro family from its first published entrance. Stefano Ferraro and Francesca Cappello introduce a Chicago world where family influence includes a supernatural ability to use shadows. The changing couples later in Shadow Riders provide different romantic interests, but they share a family and mythology. A new pair does not make every volume an equally independent introduction.

This guide concerns Feehan’s Ferraros specifically. It is not a guide to every person or author named Ferraro, and it is not the order of her separate Carpathian, Leopard or GhostWalker books. The useful decision is whether you want the family foundation, a particular advertised relationship, or the later expansion to New York. The original English titles below keep those choices identifiable across editions.

The discussion uses the author’s book descriptions, notes and catalog alongside the publisher’s numbered shelf. It describes premises and reading options, rather than reviewing eight complete novels or revealing how each relationship resolves. Some later premises necessarily disclose changes in the family’s circumstances. If you want the least advance knowledge, take the first title and return to the later sections afterward.

The eight-book route verified on the official shelves

The publisher’s Shadow Riders series shelf gives these numbered positions. The author’s series page supplies the corresponding central pairs:

  1. Shadow Rider — Stefano Ferraro and Francesca Cappello.
  2. Shadow Reaper — Ricco Ferraro and Mariko Majo.
  3. Shadow Keeper — Giovanni Ferraro and Sasha Provis.
  4. Shadow Warrior — Vittorio Ferraro and Grace Murphy.
  5. Shadow Flight — Taviano Ferraro and Nicoletta Gomez.
  6. Shadow Storm — Emmanuelle Ferraro and Valentino Saldi.
  7. Shadow Fire — Elie Archambault and Brielle Couture.
  8. Shadow Dance — Geno Ferraro and Amaranthe Aubert.

For a first family read, follow those positions. This recommendation preserves the official sequence rather than attempting to reconstruct a scene-by-scene chronology. It also keeps the series visible when a shop displays the newest volume first. A prominent cover can be book eight without being a revised version of book one.

The list already answers one potential confusion: not every central man is called Ferraro. Elie’s different surname does not remove Shadow Fire from the sequence. Conversely, the word “dark” on another Feehan cover does not insert a Carpathian novel here. The series label and numbered position establish the route more reliably than a shared author or recurring mood.

Stefano and Francesca establish the Chicago entrance

On the official Shadow Rider page, Stefano leads family businesses and Francesca arrives in Chicago seeking a fresh start. The paranormal element is explicit: the Ferraros manipulate light and darkness. Feehan’s accompanying notes say she chose the family leader for the first book and wanted to establish both close family ties and concern for the surrounding community.

That combination gives a newcomer two connected things to investigate. One is the romantic encounter between an established authority and someone rebuilding her life. The other is the family’s presentation of its power. Wealth, reputation and protective behavior matter, while the shadow ability makes this a fictional supernatural system rather than a realistic introduction to organized crime.

Begin here if the surname itself brought you to the books. You can meet the leading figure before encountering later relatives’ descriptions, instead of reconstructing why other characters turn toward him. Francesca also provides a specific romantic starting situation; “the Ferraro family” is not simply an ensemble adventure with interchangeable partners.

The author’s page offers a first-chapter sample. Use it to decide whether the narrative voice and force of the initial attraction appeal to you. The sample is a doorway into this particular novel, not evidence that every later couple behaves identically. This guide does not turn an author’s enthusiasm for her pair into a guarantee about any reader’s response.

Ricco and Giovanni offer different kinds of concealment

Shadow Reaper places Ricco’s troubled past and risky behavior beside Mariko’s search for safety. The advertised threat reaches beyond one person into the family’s future. Feehan’s notes also identify Ricco’s interest in shibari as an important part of this couple’s design. That is a specific element to consider if it influences your reading choice; it need not be converted into instructions or a series-wide intimacy category.

Ricco’s premise offers a question about what private history does to someone who already belongs to a powerful family. Membership does not erase the advertised difficulty. If you are drawn to characters whose hidden past complicates their public advantages, this is the second volume to investigate after the introduction. The description identifies an interest, while the book must supply its development.

Shadow Keeper uses another distinction between appearance and role. Giovanni’s public notoriety helps divert attention from family activity. Sasha works in a nightclub and becomes the focus of his protection. Feehan’s notes explain that an injury from the preceding book restricts his ability to ride shadows, giving her a reason to explore him beyond his gift.

That note makes sequence useful in a concrete way. The third book carries a physical consequence from the second, even while changing the principal couple. A reader interested in Giovanni can choose his premise deliberately, but should expect an established family situation. Public performance, temporary limitation and personal attachment are more precise attractions here than treating every brother as the same powerful man with a new name.

Vittorio’s wish for a family meets Grace’s danger

The Shadow Warrior description introduces Vittorio’s wish to form his own family and places his meeting with Grace within a kidnapping situation. Her brother is part of the danger. This is consequently a different advertised conflict from Giovanni’s deliberate public persona, even though protection appears in both descriptions.

For Vittorio, family names both what he already serves and what he hopes to build. For Grace, a relative can be a threat. Reading those two uses together gives a useful question to bring to the novel: how does the story distinguish a bond of care from a bond someone uses as a claim over another person? That is a question suggested by the premise, not a declaration that the complete book answers it in one particular way.

Choose this volume’s sample if the tension between creating a home and escaping a dangerous family connection interests you. It is still the fourth numbered entry. A kidnapping premise also gives more concrete information about the suspense than the cover’s atmosphere alone. There is no need to attach an invented severity score or assume that the other novels contain the same situations.

Taviano and Nicoletta have a history before their book

Shadow Flight centers Taviano and Nicoletta. Its official description identifies her earlier rescue as a teenager and a subsequent period within the Ferraros’ protection. It also describes a renewed threat and Taviano breaking family rules in response. The past and the relationship’s later focus belong to different stages of the premise.

That distinction matters. The age associated with an earlier rescue should not be carelessly applied to every event in the later novel. Equally, the description’s reference to growth does not supply an exact age to invent. Follow the book’s own timeline if ages are a deciding factor for you. The guide can identify the stated history without pretending that a short description establishes every boundary.

The interesting structural choice is a relationship formed against an existing network of protection and expectations. Compared with Francesca’s arrival in the first book, Nicoletta is introduced here through a history with the family. If that accumulated connection is what appeals, publication order gives it room to develop. Beginning at five would mean meeting an advertised culmination of earlier circumstances before their introductions.

Emmanuelle and Valentino put two families in the same conflict

Shadow Storm turns toward Emmanuelle, also called Emme, and Valentino Saldi. The official premise gives them a damaged romantic history and reconnects them through an attack on his family’s territory. Emmanuelle calls on Stefano, bringing the Ferraros into a conflict involving the Saldis.

This changes the scale of the reading question. The relationship is tied to what helping another family may demand from one’s own. A reunion is not merely two people meeting privately after time apart; the advertised decision has relatives and territory around it. You can be interested in the emotional return, the family feud, or the collision between those interests.

It also explains why the sixth description is revealing for a newcomer. It refers to the siblings’ established romantic lives and Emmanuelle’s history. If discovery of those relationships matters to you, keep Shadow Storm in its numbered place. A new heroine at the center supplies a fresh perspective within the family rather than resetting the entire world to its beginning.

Elie and Brielle make the marriage arrangement the entrance

Shadow Fire gives Elie an arranged marriage, a signed contract and expectations he thinks he can control. The author’s series overview names Brielle and explains that the pair already have a difficult history. Feehan’s individual notes also say Elie’s characterization had been established across earlier books, and that the Chicago Ferraros remain present.

For readers choosing by relationship structure, that is a clear distinction from Stefano meeting a newcomer. Marriage is part of the starting arrangement, while feeling, recognition and past behavior complicate what Elie imagines the arrangement will accomplish. His stated expectation in a description should not be mistaken for the novel’s final answer.

This is also a useful test of what you want “family series” to mean. The central surname changes, but the surrounding world persists. If you want to meet one sibling after another and stop when that pattern changes, note the shift before continuing. If a widening network interests you, the shift is a reason to look more closely. Neither preference requires falsely labeling the seventh book an unrelated standalone.

Geno and Amaranthe move the center to New York

In Shadow Dance, Geno leads the New York branch and its shadow riders. Murders, including the deaths of his parents, drive his suspicion of Amaranthe, a dancer also called Amara. The description includes captivity and the threat of interrogation, so the attraction begins within a plainly dangerous imbalance of power.

That premise gives readers interested in the expanded family an identifiable new location and leader. It also prevents a misleading comparison with a simple misunderstanding between equal strangers. Geno’s suspicion and his capacity to act on it matter to the advertised encounter. Attraction does not by itself answer questions about evidence, trust or a captive person’s freedom.

Feehan’s notes say the Chicago relatives also appear. New York therefore changes the center of attention without establishing a separate series that requires no previous context. If you want to see the family expand geographically, proceed here after Shadow Fire. If the Geno premise alone caught your eye, recognize both the eighth position and the specific captivity element before deciding on an out-of-order visit.

What the darker and paranormal elements mean for choosing

Across these official premises, supernatural connection exists alongside family authority, violence and personal danger. A shadow matching another shadow is part of the invented mythology. It is not, by itself, a description of what either person agrees to do. Read the human choices as well as the magical recognition when judging a sample.

The books also offer different sources of tension: Ricco’s past, Giovanni’s public role and injury, Grace’s threatening relative, Nicoletta’s earlier rescue, Emmanuelle’s family conflict, Elie’s marriage arrangement and Geno’s suspicion. Those differences are useful for choosing a premise. They do not justify assigning identical content, a single explicitness level or the same ending to all eight novels.

For broader context, our mafia romance guide considers family codes and power. Keep Feehan’s shadow ability attached to this specific fictional world. The genre label does not make its supernatural rules a model for other authors’ families.

Editions and future books need a dated distinction

The author’s catalog, labeled updated October 7, 2026, and the publisher shelf checked October 26 show the eight entries above. The official forthcoming page checked that day does not list a dated ninth Shadow Riders novel. That is the limit of this current map, not an announcement that the series has ended or a prediction about its next release.

The individual first-book page also identifies a German edition as Shadows: Stefano. Such a changed title belongs to the edition of an existing work; it does not automatically add another numbered novel. This guide keeps the original English titles in every language. Its language does not imply that all eight books are currently available in that language or format.

Use one exact original title and central pair when matching a library or shop record. If you already own a translated Stefano volume, compare its original-work information before buying Shadow Rider as though it were a new story. If you are starting fresh, begin with Shadow Rider, then follow the numbered shelf. Our series reading-order guide explains the broader continuity choice.
